Public gathering banned in B’baria as local AL enforces hartal
Brahmanbaria: The Brahmanbaria district administration on Sunday banned public gathering by imposing section 144 in the Sadar, Bijoynagar, Sarail and Ashuganj upazilas amid a hartal enforced by the local Awami League centering on the arrival of Fisheries and Livestock Minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque to inaugurate a livestock center in Bijoynagar upazila.
Two platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), five sections of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and more than 150 policemen have been deployed in the important points of the district to ward off any untoward incident.
Earlier on Thursday, district unit of Awami League announced the enforcement of the hartal and boycotted the inaugural programme of Bijoynagar Upazila Livestock Development Centre.
On Friday, the local Awami League men vandalised the nameplate of the livestock center named after the minister and beat up the upazila livestock officer.
Later, a case was filed against 120 people with Bijoynagar Police Station in connection with the incident.
