Dhaka: A mobile court in Dhaka awarded a six-month in prison to a man for making and promoting a pejorative video using Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s photographs.

The court also imposed Tk 10,000 fine and handed over a three-month of imprisonment for him if he doesn’t pay the monetary penalty.

The accused is Mahib Ullah, in his twenties, a resident of Aoral village of Maijkhar union in Chandina upazila, Comilla. He is also the owner of a mobile and computer accessories shop in Chandina.

Mobile court executive magistrate and upazila executive officer (UNO) Shuman Chowdhury imposed the sentence to Mahib on Saturday evening.

Chandina police officer-in-charge Rasul Ahmed Nizami said Mahib Ullah runs a shop of mobile phone and computer accessories, Maa Telecom, at Badarpur Bazar. He distorts still images of famous personalities, political leaders, and eminent personalities in pretext of his business and promotes the images through memory cards.

The OC said Mahib made deprecating images of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later, he made video attaching a song with the images and endorsed it in the market.

Mahib also showed the video to people at his shop on Friday evening.

Local people called the Chandina police and police in a drive held Mahib.

Police also seized Mahib’s computer and took it to the police station.
