Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Monday said the government will construct enough cyclone centres and a fort at Chalan Beel at Singra in Natore to protect people and cattle during natural disasters.

‘Cyclone centres will be built at Chalan Beel as per the demand. As the people of this region raise a huge number of cattle, a Mujib Kella (fort) will also be constructed to protect those during natural calamities,’ he said, reports UNB.

The minister came up with the remarks while visiting the areas devastated by flood at the beel recently. He also distributed relief materials among victims.

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, local lawmaker Shafiqul Islam Shimul and Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Md Shah Kamal accompanied the minister.

Maya said they are distributing sufficient relief materials in flood-affected areas so that the victims do not suffer from food.

He said they have already allocated 300 metric tonnes of rice, cash and corrugated iron sheets for the affected people in Natore.

Earlier in the day, the minister visited the affected areas of Haltir Beel at Naldanga upazila and talked to flood victims.

Maya also visited flood-affected areas of Gurudaspur and exchanged views with the victims, and assured them of all-out support to ease their sufferings.

He also distributed relief materials among the victims there.
