Khulna: Khulna City will go under a strong surveillance as the local administration has started installing 72 powerful internet protocol (IP) cameras in its some main points to maintain law and order.

A control room has been set up in Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Headquarters and the work on setting up the IP cameras is already underway, according to officials.

The local administration has taken up the plan to monitor and track the political saboteurs, drug peddlers, muggers and those involved in various other criminal activities.

Under the initiative, at least 72 IP cameras with Wi-Fi facilities will be installed at the main points of the city. Through the Wi-Fi services, a police personnel will be able to see the real-time images of the places from anywhere.

Already, four IP cameras have been installed at Picture Palace intersection while four others in Shonadanga Bus Terminal in the city, according to police sources.

The other cameras will be installed at some other major points like Shibbari intersection, Moylapota intersection, Galamari intersection, Rail Station and Launch Ghat areas, Royal intersection, Doulatpur and Khalishpur areas.

Besides, some spy sunglasses have been distributed among some DB police and city special branch (CTSB) police. With the rechargeable sun glasses, a police personnel can take video footages.

In addition, pen cameras will be distributed to the police personnel to take snapshots and record voices. Besides, vehicle search mirrors will be given to policemen for searching explosives and firearms easily.

Meanwhile, some stun guns will be provided to the law enforcers for interrogation and taking confessional statements of a criminal.

Alcohol and drug detector machines and fake currency detector machines will be provided for detecting drugs addicts, fake currency notes and fake passports.

Contacted, Nibash Chandra Majhi, KMP commissioner, said the Khulna city will be brought under digital technology. The law enforcement agencies will perform their duties in a methodical way.
