Dhaka: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday complained that partisan law enforcers have indulged in extrajudicial killings across the country under instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

In a statement, signed by BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, said, ‘Firing of shots indiscriminately on protest processions by law enforcers is on. The brave friends who are on the streets are being subjected to killings, enforced disappearances, adductions and cases. A large number of opposition leaders and activists, general people are also being victims of the mass arrest.’

The party complained that the law enforcers killed a Shibir activist, Jasimuddin Hawlader, in a crossfire after arresting him along with his three other fellows from the city’s Shyamaly area on Saturday.

It claimed that police picked up a Shibir leader, Abu Hasan, from his Kalabgan house and shot in his leg after taking him at the local police station. ‘Police also shot in the leg of Comilla Nangalkot Jamaat leader Belayet Hossain Majumder after taking him from his house to the local police station in the same style.’

The party strongly condemned and protested the killing and firing shots on the opposition leaders and activists by the law enforcers.

It warned that all those responsible for unlawful killings of the opposition men and gun attacks on them will be tried after change of power.

Salahuddin urged all the democracy-loving people and leaders and activists of the BNP-led 20-party alliance to ensure the fall of the government by peacefully observing the ongoing transport blockade and hartal.

Mentioning that the 20-party’s movement is for freeing the nation from the autocracy and despotism of Awami League instead of going to power, he said. ‘The victory of the mass people’s justified movement is certain.’

Referring to Finance Minister AMA Muhith’s Saturday’s comment that the situation outside Dhaka has taken a severe turn due to the ongoing blockade and hartal, the BNP leader urged the government to quit and thus save the country and its people.

He alleged that the government could not realise the real condition of the country due to the role of highly-partisan FBCCI president.

Salahuddin called upon the people from all professions and strata to rally round the flag of the 20-party’ democratic movement to force the government to step down and ensure stability in the country by establishing a representative government.
