Truck, tank‐lorry owners‐workers strike enters Day 2
Natore: The 48‐hour strike, enforced by truck, tanker‐lorry, covered van and pick‐up van owners and workers Oikyo Parishad in 16 districts of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions to press home their seven‐point demand, entered second day on Monday.
The demands of Oikya Parishad include stopping harassment in the name of checking driving licence on the highways, stopping plying of unauthorised vehicles on the highways and an end of harassment in issuing driving licence.
The Oikya Parishad leaders said earlier they observed a two‐day strike on 1 and 2 December in 2016 to meet same demands but withdrew the programme following an assurance of the government.
The leaders also warned about announcing tougher programmes after Eid‐ul‐Fitr if their demands are not met by 23May.
