100 injured in train collision

Lalmonirhat: At least 100 people were injured when two trains collided at a level crossing at Kakina Railway Station in Kaliganj, Lalmonirhat on Saturday morning.
Railway sources said the accident took place in the area at 8:52am when a Burimari-bound commuter train crashed into a Lalmonirhat-bound local train at the station, suspending train movement on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari route.
At least 100 passengers of both trains were injured while trying to get down from the trains hurriedly.
The injured were taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital, and Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Tahidar Rahman, driver of the commuter train, blamed the Kakina railway station master for the accident.
Lalmonirhat divisional railway manager Nazmul Hasan said a four-member probe committee has been formed to look into incident.
However, the railway authorities have suspended Kakina Station Master Asir Uddin and pointsman Nazir Hossain on charge of negligence in their duty.
Railway communications of Lalmonirhat with Burimari remained suspended as of filing this report at about 12:00noon.
