Dhaka: The customs intelligence officials held a passenger while smuggling gold bar concealing in his underwears at Shah Amanat Airport in Chittagong on Sunday night.

The detainee is Mohammad Alamgir, in his thirties, a resident of the Khiran area of Fatikchhari upazila.

Alamgir landed in Chittagong from Muscat by an Omar Air’s flight at about 8:45pm. Later, the customs officials searched him and found two gold bars hidden in his underclothes.

Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation on their Facebook page said being tipped off that Alamgir was carrying gold bars from Oman. The officials searched Alamgir’s body and recovered the gold bars after he crossed green channel of the airport.

The recovered gold bar weighs around 233grams and worth around Tk 10, 00000.

The Facebook post says the gold bars were submitted to the wearhouse of Chittagong Customs House.
