Outlawed party leader killed in ‘shootout’
Chuadanga: A regional leader of the outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) was killed in a reported shootout between his cohorts and the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Khaskarra in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga early on Thursday.
RAB officials said a group of criminals opened fire on a patrol team of RAB while crossing the Khaskarra Bazar, prompting the elite force to fire back around 1:00am, triggering a gunfight.
After exchange of gunfire for 30 minutes, the Rab members recovered the bullet‐hit body of Mohamamd Oltu, in his thirties, said Major Monir Ahmed, commanding officer of Jhenidah RAB-6.
The RAB also recovered one shutter gun and four bullets from the spot.
Two RAB members were also injured in the gunfight.
Tariqul Islam, additional superintendent of Chuadanga Police (Sadar Circle) said Oltu was wanted in several cases including murder and extortion.
