2 Shyamnagar police officials sued for alleged extortion
Satkhira: A case was filed against officer‐in‐charge of Shyamnagar Police Station, Syed Abdul Mannan and its sub‐inspector Liakat on charge of realising extortion from a man for his release from the police custody.
Kabir Hossain Sabuj of Biralaxmi village in Shyamnagar upazila filed the case with Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Thursday.
According to the case statement, SI Liakat detained Kabir Hossain from Nauabeki area and took him to the police station where he beat Sabuj up severely without citing any reason on 3 June.
OC Syed Abdul Mannan and SI demanded Tk 50,000 from Sabuj for his release. They then took Tk 30,000 cash from Sabuj what he possessed.
Later, Sabuj was released after his family paid Tk 18,000 more on that day.
Immediate after release, Sabuj got admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
During filing the case, Sabuj also submitted an audio phone record of the incident to the court as evidence.
Contacted, Shyamnagar OC Syed Abdul Mannan denied the allegation brought against him saying that he did not know anyone named Sabuj.
