Depression near inland, ports asked to hoist signal no 3

Dhaka: Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no three as the depression over North West Bay and adjoining North East Bay moved northeastwards and now lies over Bhola and adjoining area as a land depression on Monday morning.
It is likely to move in a North‐Northeasterly direction further inland, said a special bulletin of Met office.
Under the influence of the land depression, deep convection is continuing and steep pressure gradient lies over North Bay.
Gusty or squally weather will affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining areas of Bangladesh, the bulletin said.
Under the influence of the depression, the low‐lying areas of the coastal districts of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by wind driven surge of 1‐2 feet height above normal astronomical tide.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice, it added.
It started raining since Sunday night and continued till the filling of this report.
Commuters, office‐goers and students of schools and colleges have been facing severe problems in reaching their destinations for lack of transport.
Many roads got waterlogged due to the rain. Besides, rickshaw pullers and CNG drivers were seen demanding extra fares from the passengers during the rain intensifying their woes.
Ruhul Kuddus, a meteorologist, said the met office recorded 30 mm of rain in the capital in the last 24 hours till 6:00am on Monday.
