Accused in 11 cases killed in ‘gunfight’

Meherpur: A man, reportedly accused in eleven cases, was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of criminals at Monakhali of Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur early on Monday.

The deceased is as Mojibul Haq Muji, in his thirties, of Jatarpur village in the upazila.

Tipped off that two gangs of criminals were exchanging gunshots at Korgarta field, a team of police went to the spot at around 2:15am, said Ahsan Habib, assistant superintendent (circle) of Meherpur Police.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals managed to flee the scene.

Later, police with the help of local people went to the spot and recovered the body of Mojibul from the scene, he said.

They also recovered one LG, two shells of cartridges, four cartridges, three crude bombs and some locally made weapons from the spot.

Muji was wanted in eleven cases including four murder cases with Meherpur Sadar, Mujibnagar, and Gangni polices, said the ASP.
