Cops cordon off ‘militant den’ in Rajshahi, 12 held

Rajshahi : Law enforcers detained three alleged militants, including two siblings, and nine members of their family from a suspected hideout they cordoned off at Dangapara village in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi early on Monday.
The three alleged militants are—Israfil, his elder brother Ibrahim, and their brother in‐law Robiul Islam, 35, residents of the village.
The other family members are—Israfil’s parents Ramjan Ali, and Anwara Begum, Mojina Begum, wife of Ibrahim; and the couple’s three daughters 10-years-old Tamanna, 4-years-old Taskira, and 6‐month old Tansira; Hawa Begum, wife of Robiul; their three month old girl and Israfil’s wife.
Subit Chowdhury, additional superintendent of Police in Rajshahi, said that a joint team of police and detective branch of police (DB) cordoned off a house at the village in Panchandar union since 12:00midnight on Monday suspecting it a militant den.
Later, they arrested three militants from the house around 2:30am.
The nine others family members surrendered in the morning.
The team also recovered suicidal vests and pistols and bullets from the house and suspect there are more explosives inside the house, said the police official.
The police official added that they have requested for a bomb disposal unit from Dhaka.
The law enforcers conducted the raid in the house till 11:30am.
