Naogaon: A man was shot to death by members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Hapania border area of Sapahar upazila in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased is Jahirul Islam, in his thirties, a resident of Duar Pal Paschim Para area of Porsha upazila.

BGB 14 commanding officer lieutenant colonel Mohammad Rafiqul Islam said a group of cattle traders had gone to India to buy cattle.

BSF members from Tekkapara area of India detained Jahirul while they were returning from India through an area near main pillar no. 232, said Mohammad Rafiqul Islam.

They shot Jahirul after torturing him, leaving him dead, Rafiqul Islam added.

Local people rescued the body from the border area in the morning.
