Transport moving at snail’s pace on Tangail, Mymensingh roads
Gazipur: Movements of vehicles are very slow on Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh Highways as vehicles left the capital and piled on the roads.
Moreover, scarcity of transport on the routs increased the suffering of homegoers. People are seen travelling to their destinations by sitting on roofs of bus, truck, and pick-up vans. They are also paying extra fares for the risky rides.
Highway police official Abdur Rahman said severe pressure of transport has been seen on Dhaka-Tangail Highway’s Chandra, Kaliakoir, and Kharajora areas since morning. As a result, huge tailback was created on the highway. Vehicles are moving at snail’s pace on the Chandra, Kaliakoir sides of the highway.
Duty officer on the highway Mohammad Nurul Islam said vehicles are moving slowly on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway’s Chandana intersection due to heavy pressure of vehicles.
Pressure of reserved vehicles was also noticed in Chandra and Chandana intersections.
People are seen waiting for hours at many points of the highways due to lack of transports while some people arranged vehicles on their own cost with extra charges to reach their destinations.
Mohamamd Harun‐or‐Rashid, superintendent of Gazipur police, said police, ansar and community police are working to ease public sufferings on the highways. Besides, a control room and check‐posts were set up to ensure smooth journey of the homebound people, he said.
