Slow traffic on Dhaka-Tangail highway
Traffic was seen moving slowly on Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Gazipur on Saturday due to heavy pressure of vehicles ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Besides, a road accident in Mirzapur of Tangail in the morning created a long tailback on the highway, inflicting sufferings to the home-bound passengers.
Highway police said traffic movement on the highway remained suspended for an hour as a truck driver was killed in a collision between his truck and a bus in Mirzapur around 3:00am.
Traffic was moving slowly at Kaliakoir bypass, Sutrapur, Alenga and Mirzapur parts of the highway in the morning.
Many home-bound people were seen waiting for bus in different areas due to the lack of enough vehicles and many people were going to their destinations traveling on the roof of bus, truck and pickup van.
Besides, a heavy pressure of vehicles was noticed on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Chandana and Chandra intersection point, keeping several hundred vehicles stranded on the highway.
Although there was no tailback vehicles were moving slowly on the highway.
Talking to UNB, Gazipur Police super Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid said police, ansar member and community police are working on the highways to reduce sufferings of Eid holidaymakers.
UNB Comilla Correspondent reports there are no tailback on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in the morning.
