University teacher suspended over rape allegation

A university teacher in Jessore has been temporarily suspended after a female student of the same university brought rape allegations against him.
Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) vice-chancellor Abdus Sattar ordered the suspension on Saturday.
The suspended teacher is an assistant professor of JUST nutrition and food technology department.
University authorities also asked the suspended teacher to explain within seven days that why he would not be terminated from job.
Furthermore, the probe body, formed to investigate into the rape allegations, has been asked to submit report soon.
Earlier in May a female student of the department reported the VC that she had been raped by the accused teacher, said university registrar Ahsan Habib.
The alleged victim had lodged a rape case with the Kotwali police on 19 June.
According to the case papers, the complainant had entered into an intimate relationship with the accused teacher who had promised that he would marry the former.
But, when the female student had asked him to marry her, he reneged.
It was also alleged that the suspended JUST teacher had threated to kill the female student if she revealed her relationship with him.
