Feni: One of the key accused in the Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekram murder case was killed early Monday, in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Birinchi area of Feni Municipality.

The deceased is Mohammad Shohel alias Ruti Shohel, an accused in at least 8 cases including Ekramul Haque murder case, said OC of Feni Police Station Rashed Khan Choudhury.

Members of RAB 7 were patrolling the area when sensing their presence, Shohel and his accompanies opened fire on the law enforcers, according to OC Rashed Khan.

The RAB members retaliated, triggering the gunfight in which Shohel sustained bullet injuries and died on the spot, he said.

RAB recovered a pistol, revolver and some bullets from the spot.

The body was sent to Feni Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
