Dhaka: Terming it as people’s victory, BNP on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court verdict that has declared illegal the 16^th amendment to the Constitution establishing Parliament’s authority to remove Supreme Court judges.

Expressing party’s instant reaction BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, ‘The Supreme Court declared the 16^th Amendment illegal, we think the court’s decision is a victory of people.’

‘The government’s plot to grab the judiciary has failed through the apex court’s decision,’ he said at a press briefing at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan.

Earlier in the morning, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court verdict that declared illegal the 16^th amendment to the Constitution.
