Farhad Mazhar ‘kidnapped’
Veteran poet, columnist and intellectual Farhad Mazhar was reportedly kidnapped by unknown miscreants from the city’s Adabar area on early Monday.
Relatives of Mazhar said he left home after receiving a phone call at about 4:30am.
Mazhar wife later got a phone call from the unknown miscreants demanding Tk 35 lakh as ransom for his release, Adabar Police Station Sub-inspector Md. Mohsin he said.
Having failed to know the whereabouts of Mazhar till 10:00am, his family members went to Adabar Police Station and informed the police about it. Police said they are investigating the matter.
Adabar Police Station officer-in-charge and inspector went to Farhad Mazhar’s house, said Sub-inspector Md. Mohsin. However, no case has been framed so far.
Adabar Police Station assistant sub-inspector Md. Sujan said no details could be shared for the sake of arresting the kidnappers.
Police said, a press briefing would be arranged as soon as they finish gathering primary information from the family members of Mazhar.
