Three get death sentence for killing auto rickshaw driver

Gazipur: A Gazipur court on Wednesday handed down death penalty to three people for killing an auto-rickshaw driver at Kaliakoir upazia of the city in 2013.

Gazipur’s district judge AKM Enamul Haque issued the order at about 11:00am on.

The court also fined Tk 10,000 to each of them.

The convicts are Alamgir Hossain, Delwar Hossain, and Mehedi Hassan Babu.

The court’s public prosecutor (PP) Haris Uddin Ahammed stating the case statement said auto rickshaw driver Haider Ali was abducted from Kaliakoir at about 4:00pm on 26 December 2013. The miscreants also took over his auto rickshaw from the spot. His body was recovered near the area on the next day.

Haris Uddin Ahammed said the deceased brother; Shafiqul Islam filed a case with Kaliakoir police in this connection. The court awarded three accused with death sentence after the trial of the case concluded. Lawyer Labib Uddin Siddique participated the trial on behalf of the defenders.
