Jhenidah: A local Swechchhasebak League activist was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in the district town on Monday night.

The deceased was Tariqul Islam, son of Abdul Mazid of Beparipara in the town.

Additional police super Azbahar Ali Sheikh said a group of miscreants swooped on Tariqul in front of the Modern intersection Church at about 9:00pm.

The attackers chopped him with sharp weapons, leaving him seriously injured.

He was rushed to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

District Swechchhasebak League president Rabiul Islam confirmed that Tariqul was an activist of the district unit of voluntary wing of ruling Awami League.
