Navigability crisis halts Shimulia-Kathalbari ferry service

Munshiganj: Two ferries were stuck in Shimulia ferry terminal due to navigability crisis in the River Padma on the Shimulia-Kathalbari route at Louhajang upazila in Munshiganj in the early hours of Monday.

Two ferries—Birsreshtho Ruhul Amin, and K-Type Kamalia—have been trapped at Lauhajong point since about 1:00am on Monday. Ferry services on the route has remained suspended following the crisis.

Shimulia terminal manager Gias Uddin Patwari said due to navigability crisis, ferries stuck on Shimulia-Kathalbari route—Moqbul at about 1:00am, K-type Kamalia at about 1:30am, and Birsreshtho Ruhul Amin around 4:00am.

However, Moqbul was rescued on Monday morning.

A number of 17 ferries transport goods and passengers on the route. Two more farriers were appointed for transport passengers on the occasion of Eid.
