Bagerhat: A woman was hacked to death allegedly by her drug addicted step-son at Kartikdia village in Sadar upazila on Sunday evening.

The deceased is Hasina Begum, a resident of the village.

Family members said Hasina’s step-son Faruk Sheikh, in his thirties, was a drug addict and used to torture her for money.

On Sunday evening, Faruk demanded money from Hasina. As Hasina refused to give the money, he hit her in the head with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured.

Injured Hasina was taken to the Bagerhat Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Later, Bagherhat Model police recovered the body.

Police also arrested Faruk in connection with the murder.
