Narail: A man was beaten to death by rivals at Charsarulia village in Lohagarah upazila of Narail on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Asaduzzaman of the village.

Police and locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between Jamal Sheikh and Ajibar Mollah of the village over controlling the locality.

A tense situation had been prevailing at the village for the last few days following a clash over communication through a road recently.

Asaduzzaman, a supporter of Jamal Sheikh, came under attack by the followers of Ajibar Mollah near his house on the way to his sister’s house on Tuesday morning.

The attackers beat him with sticks indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot.

Outraged by the death of Asaduzzaman, Jamal’s supporters attacked the rivals, trigging a clash.

A chase and counter-chase took place between them that left 10 people injured from the both groups.

The injured were taken to Sadar hospital and different clinics.

On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control.
