Rizvi sent to 5-day police custody again
Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has been remanded on a five-day police custody to be quizzed in an arson case filed with the Jatrabari police.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Haque passed the order when Detective Branch sub-inspector Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, placed him before the court with a 10-day custody prayer on expiry of his five-day custody in another arson case.
On 23 January, unidentified persons threw a firebomb on a Narayanganj-bound Glory Paribahan bus when it was crossing Khaterpool area. At least 30 passengers were injured at the incident.
Of the inured, a man, Nur-e-Alam, 40, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on February 1.
On January 24, Jatrabari police sub-inspector KM Nuruzzaman charged 68 BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including BNP leader Rzivi, of conducting arson attack on the bus in Jatrabari.
Rapid Action Battalion arrested BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi from a house at Baridhara in the city on 31 January.
