Mymensingh: A police sub-inspector was suspended on Saturday following the deaths of 27 people in a stampede while collecting Zakat clothes in the town on Friday.  

The suspended police member is sub-inspector Saidul Islam, also in-charge of No 2 police camp in the town.

Mymensingh police super Moinul Haque said, ‘He has been suspended for negligence of duty.’

Earlier on Friday, at least 27 poor women and children were killed and 50 others injured in the stampede as they crowded for receiving Zakat clothes distributed by local Nurani Jarda Factory near Mymensingh municipality office.
