Kushtia: Two siblings were killed when a private car plunged into a roadside ditch and sank in Club intersection area on Kushtia-Rajbari highway in Khoksha upazila on Tuesday noon.

The deceased ARE Tahia, 3, and Tathoi, 2, daughters of Kushtia municipality mayor Anwar Ali’s son-in-law Jahid Hossain.

Quoting witnesses, police said the private car carrying four members of the family–Jahid, his wife Tonni and their two daughters–skidded off the road and fell into the ditch AT ABOUT 12:00 noon as its driver lost control over the steering.

The vehicle sank in water of the ditch following the plunge.

Although Jahid and his wife managed to get out of the sunken car, their daughters Tahi and Tathoi met the watery burial inside the vehicle.

Later, locals fished out the bodies of the two children.

The tragedy struck the family while they were coming to Kushtia from Dhaka to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their near and dear ones.

Quazi Daud Khan, Khoksha Police officer-in-charge, confirmed the incident.
