Shirajgonj: Five people including two children were killed and 25 injured as a Gaibandha-bound bus fell into a ditch on the western side of the Bangabandhu Bridge link road in Kamarkhand upazila in Sirajganj on Friday.

Four of the five deceased are a child Shahana of Sonaidanga village in Gaibandha Sadar upazila; Farida, in her twenties of the same village; Selina, in her twenties, of Birahilpur village in Gobindaganj upazila, Nirob, a minor boy of Gariapara village of the same upazila.

Bangabandhu Bridge (West) Police officer in-charge Helal Uddin said the Gaibandha-bound bus carrying home-goers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr fell into the ditch breaking the railing of bridge number 4 of the Bangabandhu Bridge link road at about 5:15pm, leaving three of the passengers dead on the spot and 27 others injured.

The injured were rushed to Sirajganj General Hospital where two more succumbed to their injuries.

Police recovered the bodies and sent those to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
