Road crashes kill 4
Gazipur: Four people, including a student of Notre Dam College, were killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents in the district on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Two of the deceased are Zakir Hossain, a class XI student of Notre Dame College, Ahsan Ullah, in his fifties, a former UP member of Bhawal Mirzapur Union Parishad while identities of two others could not be known.
Tongi Police sub-inspector Nazmul Haque said a Dhaka-bound bus knocked down Zakir in Cherag Ali area on Dhaka- Mymensingh highway on Wednesday morning when he was crossing the road, leaving him critically injured.
Local people rescued him and sent him to Tongi Hospital. He died when he was being taken to United Hospital of Dhaka from Gazipur.
Police arrested the bus driver and his helper from the spot.
Besides, another unidentified youth was crushed under the wheels of a speedy bus in Tongi on Dhaka- Mymensingh highway on Wednesday noon, added the SI.
Hotapara Police in-charge Azharul Isalm said former UP member Ahsan Ullah was killed as a speedy truck hit his private car in Bhabani Bazar area on Dhaka- Mymensingh highway at about 9.00pm on Tuesday when he was returning home.
Besides, a bus driver was killed and 20 passengers were injured in a triangular collision among two buses and a CNG run auto-rickshaw in Shafipur area in Kaliakoir upazila on Dhaka-Tangail highway on Wednesday morning.
