Comilla: Two more people have been killed in train related accident in Comilla, hours after 8 people died in similar accident in Gazipur on Thursday.

The accident occurred when a train crashed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at a level crossing at Jailkahana Bari in Sadar South upazila on Thursday afternoon killing Abul Khayer and Masud Rana.

The deceased Abul Khayer, reportedly 32 years old, was son of Mominul Islam, and Masud Rana, who is in his late twenties, was son of Abdur Rashid. Both of them are residents of the Village Tongirpar in the upazila, reports UNB.

Road accidents have increased at a terrible rate in the last couple of days as people are returning to capital after Eid holidays with a total of 25 deaths reported only on Thursday.

Laksam Junction railway police officer-in-charge Ahsan Habib said the Dhaka-bound ‘Karnaphuli Express’ train hit the three-wheeler at the unmanned level crossing at about 3:30pm, leaving its driver Abul Khayer dead on the spot.

Abdur Rashid succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

In a similar accident, eight people, including three children, were killed after Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (Demu) train had slammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Haydarabad level-crossing in Gazipur on Thursday afternoon.
