Dhaka: Ten newly-appointed additional judges of the High Court (HC) were sworn-in on Thursday.

Chief Justice SK Sinha administered the oath at a ceremony at the auditorium of the Supreme Court annex building.

The new judges are Chittagong Metropolitan District and Sessions Judge (retd) SM Mojibur Rahman, Supreme Court Registrar Farid Ahmed Shibli, Gazipur District Judge Amir Hossain, Advocate Khizir Ahmed Chowdhury, Deputy Attorney General Rajik Al Jalil, Advocate Jyotirmoy Narayan Dev Chakrawarty, Deputy Attorney General Bhishma Dev Chakrawarty, Advocate M Iqbal Kabir Liton, Deputy Attorney General M Salim and Deputy Attorney General M Suhrawardy.   

Judges of both the divisions of the Supreme Court were present at the oath taking ceremony.

The President on 9 February made the appointments—three from the bench and seven from the bar—for two years, exercising his power under the Constitution.

With the new appointments, the number of the HC division judges stands at 97.

This was the first phase appointment of the judges to the HC division under the second term of the Awami League-led alliance government. Earlier, it had appointed 56 judges to the HC in phases since 2009.
