Gazipur: A suspected robber was beaten to death at Namila village in Kapasia upazila in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased is Shamim, a resident of Panchahar village in Gaforgoan upazila of Mymensingh district.

Local police said a gang of around 15 armed robbers stormed into three houses of the village at about 2:00am.

The robbers took away cash, gold jewelleries and other valuables from the houses.

Later, local people surrounded the robbers while they were trying to flee the scene.

They held Shamim, while others of the gang managed to flee.

The villagers beat Shamim and left him dead on the spot.

Police went to the village and recovered the body.

The Kapasia police said Shamim was accused in 15 cases including murder and robbery cases filed with several police stations, including Kapasia, Gaforgoan, Sripur, Monohordi and Pakundia.
