Hefajat leader Izhar arrested

Chittagong: Security officials have arrested Hefajat-e-Islam leader Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury from Chittagong.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police Detective Branch held the Hefajat-e-Islam Nayeb-e-Ameer from city’s Lalkhan Bazar area on Friday.
Mufti Izharul, also a factional president of Islami Oikko Jote, was arrested from Jamiatul Ulum Al Islami Madrasah at about 2:00pm, said SM Tanvir Arafat, deputy commissioner of DB, CMP.
Izharul who had been wanted in six cases including three filed for explosion at Jamiatul Ulum Al Islami Madrasah, run by Izhar, was taken to DB, CMP headquarters, the DB officer said.
Three people, including two students, were killed and several others injured in an explosion in a room of second floor of a four-storey hostel of Jamiatul Ulum Islami Madrasah at Lalkhan Bazar On 7 October 2013.
Police later recovered huge explosive-making materials, four unexploded grenades from the surrounding areas of the madrasah and 18 bottles of acid after raiding the residence of Izahar on the night of the deadly bomb explosion.
Later, the Khulshi police filed three cases - one under Explosives Substance Act, another under Acid Act and the other for murder of the three people.
