Gazipur: A garment worker was run over by a bus on the Gazipur-Mymensingh Highway in Rangila Bazar area of Sreepur upazila on Monday morning.

The deceased is Ranu Akhter, believed to be 25.

Police said the speeding bus hit Ranu in the area at about 6:30am while she was returning home from the textile mill she works in after her night duty, leaving her dead on the spot.

As the news of her death spread around, fellow workers took to the streets and put up barricade on the highway at about 7:00am.

Traffic on the busy road remained halted for an hour following the blockade.
