Khulna: A Khulna court on Monday remanded Sharif and Mintu, the two prime accused in the Rakib killing case, on a five-day police custody for questioning.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Faruk Iqbal issued the order after Sadar Police Station sub-inspector Kazi Mostaque Ahmed, also investigation officer of the case, produced them before his court seeking a 10-day custody.

The duo was injured in a mob beating following the death of Rakib and was undergoing treatment at a local hospital under police custody.

Earlier on 3 August, a 12-year-boy Rakib, who used to work at a motorcycle garage at Tutpara Central Road in Khulna City, was tortured to death allegedly by his employers over quitting job.

Locals caught the two torturers -‘Sharif Motorcycle Garage’ owner Sharif and his brother Mintu and handed them over to the local police station after giving them beating.

Alam Haldar, victim’s father, filed a case with Sadar Police Station against three people—Sharif and Mintu, and their mother Beauty Akhter—on Tuesday.

Police also arrested Beauty as she was present during the incident on the spot.

On 6 August, the court also placed Beauty Begum, mother of Sharif and also an accused, on a three-day remand.
