Indefinite bus strike begins in Sylhet
Sylhet: An indefinite bus strike enforced by transport workers on the Sylhet-Dhaka Highway protesting the killing of a bus driver began on Wednesday.
Sylhet Zila Sorok Paribahan Shramik Union announced the strike at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Plying of all buses on the Sylhet-Dhaka route has remained suspended due to the strike, cutting off the district from the capital.
Selim Ahmad Falik, president of the union, said a number of passengers beat Shyamoli Paribahan’s driver Shibu Chandra Deb, a resident of Jaflong area in Goaighat upazila, to death at Sayedabad bus terminal in Dhaka on Monday night as his vehicle arrived at the terminal beyond the schedule.
Superintendent of police Nur-e-Alam Mina said the strike was being observed peacefully without any unpleasant incident.
