Nilphamari: A Nilphamari court on Wednesday convicted five people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for killing a farmer in 2008. Additional District and Sessions Judge Mahabubul Alam handed down the verdict after examining the records and witnesses.

The convicts are Samsuddin, Fazlar Rahman, Ashraf Ali, Bisharu Mamud, and Rafiqul Islam of Khushipara village in Domar upazila.

The court also fined Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, police recovered the body of Lutfur Rahman, in his fifties, a farmer, from near a pond at Dakkhin Balapara village in Dimla upazila on 16 February 2008.

Ambia Khatun, wife of the victim, filed a case accusing eight people,including the five convicts, with Domar Police Station.

Police submitted charge-sheet against the five suspects after investigation.
