Rakib killing: Mintu describes brutality

Khulna: Mintu Khan, a so-called uncle of M Omar Sharif, the prime accused in the Rakib killing case, reportedly confessed to his crime before a local court on Wednesday.
Metropolitan Magistrate M Faruk Iqbal recorded the statement of Mintu under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
On 3 August, minor boy Rakib, who used to work at a motorcycle garage at Tutpara Central Road in Khulna city, was tortured to death allegedly by his former employers over quitting job.
In his statement, Mintu described the brutality they unleashed on the minor boy.
He told the court that he and Sharif got angered at Rakib after he had left the job at ‘Sharif Motors’ without any information.
Sharif asked him to catch the boy while he was passing by the garage on the day of occurrence, he said.
‘I took Rakib to the shop, stripped off his jeans and held him tightly, and Sharif pumped air into his belly after putting the compressor pipe into his onus,’ Mintu said.
Following the air pump, Rakib’s belly inflated and they put pressure into his belly by their legs to drain out the air. However, the air did not come out of the belly, he said.
As the boy started vomiting, they took him to nearby Good Health Clinic where doctors declined to treat him as his condition deteriorated, Minto informed the court.
Finally, Rakib succumbed to his injuries at Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Earlier on Monday, a local court placed Sharif and Mintu on a five-day police custody in the murder case.
Sharif made his confessional statement on Tuesday while his mother Beauty Begum, also an accused in the case, confessed to her involvement in the incident on 6 August.
Alam Haldar, victim’s father, filed a case with Sadar Police Station against three people - Sharif, Mintu and Beauty Begum - after the brutal killing.
