Joypurhat: Police detained three people, including owner of a restaurant, as they allegedly tortured a minor boy for refusing to work at a restaurant in Pouro area of Akkelpur upazila in Joypurhat on Saturday evening.

The arrestees are Abdul Matin, owner of Mega Hotel and Restaurant in Pouro area, its employee Rubel, and Sumon, owner of a salon.

The victim is Sahad Ali, aged around 10 years, son of Sohor Ali, a resident of Sakhidar Para area of the upazila

Quoting family members, police said Matin asked Sahad to work at his restaurant.

As Sahad refused, they took him into the restaurant and confined him there.

Later they took him to a nearby salon and had his hair and eyebrows cut off.

After returning home, Sahad shared the incident with his family.

His family members along with other local people went to the restaurant and protested the incident.

The Akkelpur police went to the spot and held the trio from the area at about 8:00pm.
