OC closed over youth’s death in AL factional clash

Kushtia: The officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station, Abdul Khalek, was closed to Khulna range office on Sunday following Saturday’s clash between two factions of Awami League that left a Juba League activist dead.
Sources at Kushtia superintendent of police office said the action was taken against the OC for his negligence of duty during the clash.
Meanwhile, the shooter seen in a video clip firing bullets in front of police during the clash has been identified as Anisur Rahman, a former assistant sub-inspector of Kafrul Police Station in the capital.
Anisur was suspended after he had been arrested for possession of drugs two years back.
Anisur, son of late Mosharraf Hossain Mandal of Dhaka-Jhalupara village in Sadar upazila, was said to be a relative of the expelled AL leader and former AL district general secretary Mominur Rahman Momiz.
Besides, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-12 arrested a man, Mostafizur Rahman Madhu, an associate of the expelled AL leader Momiz, in possession with one foreign shot gun and 16 bullets from Housing area of the district town on Saturday evening.
Additional Deputy Inspector of police in Khulna range Ekram Ul Habib visited the spot but he did not make any comment to the reporters over the murder.
Meanwhile, victim’s brother, Arif Hossain, filed a case against 20 people, including Kushtia district Swechhasebak League president Akhteruzzaman Labu and its general secretary Sheikh Sazzad Hossain Sabuj, with Kushtia Model Police Station on Sunday.
Besides, police seized the licensed shot gun of Swechhasebak League general secretary Sheikh Sazzad Hossain Sabuj on Sunday, said Kushtia additional superintendent of police Sohel Reza.
Police also sent a report seeking cancellation of arms licence of Swechhasebak League president Akhteruzzaman Labu and its general secretary Sheikh Sazzad Hossain Sabuj, expelled AL leader Mominur Rahman Momiz and his associate Mostafizur Rahman Madhu, he said.
On Saturday, Juba League activist Sabuj, 23, son of Mobarak of Jhalupara of the town, was killed and five other people suffered bullet injuries during a clash between two factions of Awami League over joining a Mourning Day rally at Milpara in the district town on Saturday noon.
