Sirajganj: A man and his wife were killed as their private car caught fire following the gas cylinder explosion on Hatikumrul-Bonpara road in Salanga, Sirajganj on Monday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Police said the couple was travelling by their private car from Dhaka to Rajshahi with the husband driving the vehicle. The vehicle crashed into a roadside tree near Goja Bridge at about 9:30pm after the man lost his control over the steering.

Following the crash, the car went up in flames after its gas cylinder exploded with a big bang. The man died on the spot while his wife succumbed to her injuries at hospital.

Hatikumrul highway police officer-in-charge BM Imdadul Haque confirmed the accident.
