Amar Ekushey gets recognition in USA
After getting prestigious recognitions as the International Mother Language Day from UNESCO and the United Nations, the Amar Ekushey (February 21) has now got recognition in the USA.
Recently New York State Governor Andrew M Cuomo declared the recognition formally, according to a message of Muktodhara Foundation received in Dhaka from New York today.
Muktadhara Foundation President Bishwajit Saha submitted a proposal to New York State Senator Peralta last year for giving recognition to Amar Ekushey in the USA.
The proposal was passed (regulation no 469) at the New York State Senate Albany on February 10, 2015 and the resolution was included in the gazette on Friday.
The recognition certificate of Amar Ekushey will be handed over formally to Muktodhara Foundation during the International Mother Language Day function at 5 pm on February 20 in front of the UN headquarters in New York.
On this occasion a two-week book fair will be organized at Jackson Heights in New York, from February 18 to March 1.
International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999.
On May 16, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution called upon member states "to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by peoples of the world".
