Lakshmipur: Detectives arrested a fugitive murder convict from Lamchari area in Sadar upazila on Monday night.

Additional superintendent of police Muhammad Shariful Islam said the arrestee, Taiyab Alam, son of Samsul Alam, a resident of Shibpur village in Ramganj upazila of the district, was sentenced to death in absentia for killing a microbus driver Jabed Hossain on 31 May 2000.

Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a raid on the house of Taiyab’s father-in-law in the area and arrested him at night, the ASP added.
