BCL factional clash injures 2 at CU
Chittagong: Two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) clashed at of Chittagong University (CU) on Tuesday, leaving two people injured.
The injured are BCL men Jamir Uddin and Imam Ahmed Sahil.
Campus sources said there had been a longstanding dispute between the followers of CU unit BCL president Mohammad Alamgir Tipu and its general secretary Fazle Rabbi Sujon over occupying seats at Suhrawardy Hall.
The clash ensued following an altercation between the supporters of the two groups on the campus in the afternoon.
At one stage, a chase and counter-chase took place between them when they threw brick chips at each other, leaving two activists injured.
On information, a police team rushed in and brought the situation under control by lobbing teargas shells and firing in the air.
Contacted, Hathazari police Inspector (investigation) Salahuddin Chowdhury said the clash occurred between the two BCL groups over distribution of hall seats.
Additional police forces were deployed on the campus to avert further untoward incident, he said.
