Comilla: A man was beaten to death on allegations of stealing money from the donation box of a mosque at Manikmura village in Nangalkot upazila, Comilla, in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased could not be identified immediately.

The Nangalkot police said a thief entered Manikmura Mosque at about 3:30am and tried to break the lock of the donation box.

Sensing the presence of the thief, the Moazzem of the mosque issued an alert, over the loudspeaker.

The thief was caught by local people while trying to escape. The mob gave him a severe thrashing, leaving him dead on the spot.

Police went to the spot and sent the body to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
