Sylhet: A labourer, whose job is to load and unload bricks, was killed as he slipped down under the wheels of a truck on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway at Changil in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased is Ali Mia, in his thirties, from Raghubasha village in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj district.

Locals and fellow workers said Ali was trying to get on a Sylhet- bound stone-leaden truck while returning home with his co-workers but slipped off and fell under the wheels of the vehicle and died on the spot at 6.00 pm.

Following the incident, locals blocked the highway in protest.

Police recovered the body.

Jaintapur police sub-inspector Mainul Islam said Ali slipped off as he tried to board the truck before it stopped and died.

The body was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, added the SI.
