Police to quiz 2 siblings over blogger Ananta murder
Sylhet: A court in Sylhet on Friday placed two siblings on seven-day police custody each in connection with the killing of blogger Ananta Bijoy Das.
Those remanded are Mannan Yeahia, 24, and his brother Mohaimin Noman, 26, sons of Mainuddin of East Faljur village in Kanaighat upazila.
The judge of a Metropolitan Magistrate Court passed the order after CID produced them before the court seeking 15-day police custody for them.
Earlier, members of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police arrested the two siblings from East Faljur village in Kanaighat upazila on early Friday.
Tipped off, a CID team launched a drive at their house village at about 11:00am and arrested the two brothers, said additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Mohammad Rahmat Ullah.
Briefing reporters at the SMP office, police super (CID) Mirza Abdullahel Baki said Mannan, also a student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), used to post writings on his facebook account against bloggers and his brother Noman used to run several facebook accounts.
Blogger Ananta, also an activist of Sylhet Ganajagaran Manch, was hacked to death by a group of assailants in broad daylight at Subidbazar Bankalapara in the city on 12 May.
On 13 May, Rateshwar Das, elder brother of Ananta Bijoy, filed a case against four people with the Airport Police Station.
Ananta Bijoy was also a writer in the ‘Mukto-Mona blog’, founded by blogger Avijit Roy - who had been murdered two and a half months ago after he came home from the USA.
