6 killed as truck plunges into ditch

Comilla: Six workers were killed as a tin-laden truck plunged into a ditch near Kotabari of Nandanpur area at Sadar upazila in Comilla in the early hours of Monday.

At least five people were also injured during the accident.

The deceased are Shahid Mia, resident of Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha, Fazlu, Jahid Mia, Anwar Mia, Shafiqul, and Geru Mia. 

The Comilla district police said the Dhaka-bound truck from Chittagong fell into a ditch when its driver lost his control over the wheel at about 2:00am.

Identities of the injured could not be known yet. The injured were taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital.

The Moinamoti post police said the deceased, who were construction workers, were going to Dhaka for work. Police said the truck driver and his assistant left the spot immediately after the accident.

The bodies were kept at Moinamoti Highway police station.
