Rajbari: Two people were killed in a reported gunfight with police at Pangsha upazila in Rajbari in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased were Kamal, the prime accuse in the case filed for killing former Pangshu police officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman in 2004, and Omar Khan, member of an inter-district robber gang.

The Pangsha police said a team of police conducted a drive in the area to arrest criminals at about 3:15am at Nihari village of Purbapatta union of the upazila.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire to police, triggering a gunfight.

Omar Kha and Kamal Hossain were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee, said police.

Police also recovered two shutter guns, a gun, and five cartridges.

Police claimed five police member including officer-in-charge Abu Shama Mohammad Iqbal Hayat were also injured during the gunfight.
